Weijiacun Mound Tombs

Listing and batch

The Jiangsu provincial list of protected sites records the Weijiacun Mound Tombs as Western Zhou to Spring and Autumn, in Weijiacun, Jingqiao Town, Lishui District. In the notice of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government on the seventh batch of provincial protected sites (Su Zheng Fa [2011] No. 181, 19 December 2011) the group is numbered II—1, with the same period. The seventh batch comprised 188 sites and 5 extensions, of which this is the only one in Lishui.

The rescue excavation of 2005

China News Service reported in 2014 that from April to September 2005, under the co-ordination of the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, eight teams including the Nanjing Museum carried out rescue excavations of mound tombs within Lishui. Mound tombs in Lishui commonly yield pottery and proto-porcelain, with glazes tending to yellow or green.

That report covers the rescue excavation of mound tombs along a motorway as a whole and is not the excavation report for the Weijiacun group. This entry therefore does not present "commonly yields pottery and proto-porcelain" as finds from the Weijiacun group itself, but as the common finds of mound tombs in Lishui.
